Adobe Photoshop CS3 Dialog Box List

What does it do? Where is it located?
Auto Color Correction Options Dialog Box
1.  Enhance Monochromatic Contrast -  increases contrast while preserving color.
2.  Enhance Per Channel Contract - maximizes the tonal range in each channel to produce a more dramatic correction.  Each Channel is adjusted individually.  ** This is the option that AUTO LEVELS uses.
Warning:  This option may remove or introduce color casts.
3.  Find Dark & Light Colors - Finds the AVERAGE lightest and darkest pixels in an image and uses them to maximize contrast while minimizing clipping. ** The AUTO COLOR command uses this algorithm.
4.  Snap Neutral Midtones
Image - Adjustments - LEVELS - Then hit the OPTIONS button

ALSO, you can find the same dialog box here:

Image - Adjustments - CURVES - Then hit the OPTIONS button

Color Settings Dialog Box
Configure Color Settings with this dialog box.
Default settings are fine for the web.

EDIT - COLOR SETTINGS

WORKING SPACES:
1.  WORKING SPACES:  This area is where you create color handling profiles.
2.  BEST CHOICES is Adobe RGB (1998) or ProPhoto RGB which provides the optimum color space.
3.  ProPhoto RGB
when your output is destined for dye-sub, inkjet photo printers or Hi-fi color.  This option causes strange color problems when opening in other applications.
4.  Never use Monitor RGB, sRGB = good for web design, Apple RGB is for Mac Web Design
5.  Leave CMYK selection at the default.
6.  Gray Working Space:  Use Gray Gamma 2.2
7.  Spot Working Space: Select Dot Gain 20%
COLOR MANAGEMENT POLICIES:
1.  Never select the OFF option.  All new documents will be created without an embedded ICC profile.
2.  Preserve Embedded Profiles - Use this default
3.  Check the three boxes:  Ask when opening, ask when Pasting - This will give you the most control.  However, checking these is not necessary.
CONVERSION OPTIONS:
1.  Engine:  Use Adobe (ACE)
2.  Intent:  Relative Colorimetric or Perceptual - I like Perceptual because colors will not change as much as with Relative Colormetric which matches out of gamut colors to the nearest pixel, changing color.
3.  Use Black Point Compensation checked and Use Dither checked.

Curves Dialog Box
Curves dialog box lets you adjust the entire tonal range of an image.
Curves you can adjust any point along a 0-255 scale while keeping up to 15 other values constant.

ALSO at the bottom of the Layers Palette

Levels Dialog Box
Dynamic range is the scale of tonality from darkest to brightest in an image.
In order to expand the dynamic range of an image, use the Levels Adjustment and increase contrast with the black input slider, thereby increasing the intensity values of the pixels.
255 is white

If you move the left arrow all the way to the right, the entire picture will turn black.  0=pure black
If you move the right arrow all the way to the left, the entire picture will turn white.  255=pure white
