Computer beginners and professionals will find helpful lessons, tutorials and link references on this website.  I have been involved in multimedia and new creative arts for over fifteen years.  I took my first computer course in 1982.  So, I'm an old timer.   I have degrees in business and communications and broadcasting and have also chalked a couple of years of computer programming courses.  I work in public access television production and also do professional photography on the side .... in my spare time.  Oh yea, one of my jobs was working for a major internet company as a technical support specialist.  These pages are from notes I took over the years.  There is so much to learn in the computer industry as well as the digital photography, videography and audio industries are constantly changing.  I hate paying for anything, so I have collected as much free stuff as I can and I started to take notes and collect great links.  Hope my notes help you too!

How to Create a New Folder
See Windows XP and Windows 98 (below)

Creating a New Folder in Windows XP
One should get in the habit of creating folders to organize all the parts and pieces of a project. Windows XP has more than one way to create a folder. Following is one way:

1. Click on Start and then click on My Documents.

2. Look at the top left of the My Documents screen. You'll see a phrase that says "Make a new folder." Click on that phrase.
3. A "new folder" icon will appear at the bottom of the list in the Window on the right. The text will be highlighted in blue. Simply type in the name of your new folder. Hit the Enter key or click in a white, neutral zone off to the side to accept the name of the folder. (If you make a mistake, right-click on the folder, choose rename, and type in the name again.)
4. You can make folders within folders. Double-click on your new folder. It will be empty. Simply click on the "make a new folder" command on the left of the My Documents window and another new folder will appear. This allows you to create a main folder for your files and then organize related files into subfolders such as ones for pictures, sounds, movies, etc.
5. If you don't want a folder, first empty its contents. Next, click on it to select it and then simply hit the delete key.

Creating a New Folder in Windows 98
Create a new folder:
  1. Find Windows Explorer on your Desktop (looks like icon on the left).  If it is not located on your desktop, go to START - PROGRAMS and look near the end of the list.
  2. Open Windows Explorer.
  3. Highlight (C:).  by clicking once on the C: as shown.
  4. Go to the menu at the top left and press FILE - NEW - FOLDER and a new folder will appear.

  5. If the folder text is highlighted in blue as seen above, simply type in a new name for the folder.  For instance, type download1 then press ENTER. You can rename the folder any name you'd like.  This is file you'll look for when you download.

If the text is not highlighted, click once on the New Folder and go to the top left menu again FILE - RENAME and then rename it (or just RIGHT CLICK YOUR MOUSE BUTTON while the mouse arrow is on the folder).

Note:  You should always keep control of anything you download.  Know where the files are being downloaded to and maintain the ability to delete those files.  Creating a special folder for downloads helps protect you from viruses and reduces the number of "miscellaneous" or unknown files on your hard drive. It may be a good idea to include a month and date when you name your folder, i.e. downloadsApril2003, that way you can easily back up or delete whatever new files you added to your computer.

    Now you're ready to download.
