Computer beginners and professionals will find helpful lessons, tutorials and link references on this website. I have been involved in multimedia and new creative arts for over fifteen years. I took my first computer course in 1982. So, I'm an old timer. I have degrees in business and communications and broadcasting and have also chalked a couple of years of computer programming courses. I work in public access television production and also do professional photography on the side .... in my spare time. Oh yea, one of my jobs was working for a major internet company as a technical support specialist. These pages are from notes I took over the years. There is so much to learn in the computer industry as well as the digital photography, videography and audio industries are constantly changing. There are any number of reasons that you may be having problems. In Teching your problem, we need to eliminate the obvious first. So, go through the following and write down the answers and retry uploading. Writing down the error messages is important so you can tell the technical support tech the exact symptoms of the problem.

1. What program are you using to upload? CORE_FTP? FrontPage? Netscape?

2. What error message are you receiving?

3. Retype and make sure that the username and password are:

     A. All lowercase letters (UNIX servers are case sensitive. You must type the username EXACTLY, including lower and uppercase letters).
     B. One Word, no spaces, no underlines, no characters
     C. What HOST/IP/URL did you type in. Usually it should be your domain URL, www.yourdomain.com or just yourdomain.com. Again, lowercase, do not use capital letters, spaces or characters.

4. Are you using VIRUS PROTECTION software? Sometimes virus protection software will stop your computer from communicating with another computer. So, try shutting off your virus protection software and try uploading again.

5. Wait 10 minutes and try uploading again. Sometimes (not often) you may have tried to upload to the server at the same exact time as the maintenance people are maintaining the server. They most often will do this outside of business hours and many like to work late at night so that they don't disturb people.   It should never take more than approximately 10 minutes of maintenance, unless there is scheduled maintenance (This should be posted on your web hosts support page). So, wait 10 minutes and try uploading again.

6. If all else fails e-mail or call tech support. (Tip: Always e-mail, some technical support people work on the road, so they may not be able to get your call. They will be able to take the e-mail.) Then also call.
