Computer beginners and professionals will find helpful lessons, tutorials and link references on this website.  I have been involved in multimedia and new creative arts for over fifteen years.  I took my first computer course in 1982.  So, I'm an old timer.   I have degrees in business and communications and broadcasting and have also chalked a couple of years of computer programming courses.  I work in public access television production and also do professional photography on the side .... in my spare time.  Oh yea, one of my jobs was working for a major internet company as a technical support specialist.  These pages are from notes I took over the years.  There is so much to learn in the computer industry as well as the digital photography, videography and audio industries are constantly changing.  I hate paying for anything, so I have collected as much free stuff as I can and I started to take notes and collect great links.  Hope my notes help you too!

Web Page Design Flaws
Top Things Beginners Do Wrong When Designing Web Sites

1. Misusing Flash - Do not use flash as the opening to any web site.  Putting a "skip intro" button on the front page just indicates that you don't think anything really important is on that page and that most people will want to skip it.  You're right.  Just get straight to the important information and don't waste anyone's time.

2.  Using Frames - Frames confuse people and often give you big problems when editing.

3. Under Construction Signs - Just don't put one on your page .... ever.

4. Misusing Graphics - Graphics on any website take a long time to load.  If the designer chooses to use graphics, he or she should take care to minimize the file size (note this does not mean the size of the actual graphic or picture) or "optimize" the graphic.  Two programs that are used to keep the best graphic or picture quality and reduce the file size are Adobe ImageReady and Macromedia Fireworks.

5. Misuse of Fonts and Font Size - Large font types should not be used on web sites or should be used sparingly.  Nothing over 18 points should be used for any font.  People usually like to make titles very large which takes away from the real message of the page.  Also, keep fonts very neat.  Do not use fancy, italic fonts.  Very simple fonts works best on most monitors. Remember that just because it looks good on your computer does not mean it will look good on someone else's monitor.

6. Complex Backgrounds - Simple is always better.  You want to convey a message, not create a Monet copy.

7. Link Problems - Always check to be sure that every link works from every page.

8.  Misusing Music - NEVER PUT MUSIC ON YOUR WEBSITE!!!! People may be browsing to your website at work or while the kids are sleeping.  If you put music on your site it will take others a LOOOOONGGGGG time to open.  Yes it does open fast on your computer ....that is because the music cached on your computer - it is not on the computers of others.  Just don't use music.
