Computer beginners and professionals will find helpful lessons, tutorials and link references on this website.  I have been involved in multimedia and new creative arts for over fifteen years.  I took my first computer course in 1982.  So, I'm an old timer.   I have degrees in business and communications and broadcasting and have also chalked a couple of years of computer programming courses.  I work in public access television production and also do professional photography on the side .... in my spare time.  Oh yea, one of my jobs was working for a major internet company as a technical support specialist.  These pages are from notes I took over the years.  There is so much to learn in the computer industry as well as the digital photography, videography and audio industries are constantly changing.  I hate paying for anything, so I have collected as much free stuff as I can and I started to take notes and collect great links.  Hope my notes help you too!

STEP 3:           PART I:
Making Changes to a Specific Page
  1. Deleting text:  Make sure you made a copy of your page first.  Select the text you'd like to delete by placing your mouse cursor in front of the first word in the sentence or paragraph.  Find the DELETE key on your keyboard (above the four arrows on the right side of the keyboard.)  Press the DELETE key until the words you want deleted are gone.  Be sure not to delete any other tables or symbols when you're deleting.
Another method:  Highlight the text by placing your mouse cursor in front of the words you'd like to delete, hold your left mouse key down and drag the mouse to the right and down.  (if you have a lot of text you can't see because its below the page, click at the end of the paragraph, hold the left mouse key down and drag the mouse up and to the left).  Once the words are highlighted, press the DELETE key.
  2. Adding text: Select the location where you'd like your text.  Start typing.  Warning:  Do not use unusual fonts.  Your computer will have all of the fonts you are using, but other computers that don't have the fonts you have on your computer will NOT see your web site as you see it.  ARIAL is a very safe font.   To be sure you are using versatile fonts that will show up on most computer systems, you must put input the font families directly into the HTML by selecting TOOLS - HTML TOOLS - EDIT HTML SOURCE and inserting a font family.  Following are a list of 5 common font family groupings:
            1.  arial, helvetica, sans-serif
            2.  Times New Roman, Times, serif
            3.  Courier New, Courier, mono
            4.  Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif
            5.  Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif
  3. Deleting a Picture or Graphic:  Click on the graphic and press delete.
  4. Adding a Picture or Graphics:  Locate and know the name of the picture or graphic file you'd like to insert.
  5. Click inside of the table box where you'd like to insert the photo or graphic.  From the menu bar at the top, select INSERT - IMAGE
  6. Press the CHOOSE FILE button and locate the picture or graphic you'd like to insert.  (It may be easier if all graphics and photographs are located on a floppy disk so you only have to search the a: drive).
NOTE:  Your graphics and pictures should have already been prepared and reduced for the web.  Large file sizes will not allow the site to load quickly.  Pictures should be smaller than 25k and colored graphics should be approximately 10k or less, depending on the graphic.
    PART II:
  7. Changing Background Colors:   From the top menu, select FORMAT - PAGE COLORS AND PROPERTIES - Select the Colors and Background Tab at the top.  Always designate your background color, even if you're simply using white.  DO NOT LEAVE THE COLOR ON DEFAULT.  Some computers default to a gray or other noncomplimentary colors.  Designating gives you the control over what the viewer sees.
  8. Putting and image in the Background: Same as Step 7 above. Usually, special background colors or patterns are 2"X2" or smaller.  This size tiles across and down the page.  Larger background images are very large and require file size (not picture size) reduction.
  9. Check off USE IMAGE at the bottom of the PAGE COLORS AND PROPERTIES TAB
  10. Click the CHOOSE FILE button on the right and find the background image you'd like to use.  OPEN - APPLY - OK.
