Class Notes

Computer beginners and professionals will find helpful lessons, tutorials and link references on this website.  I have been involved in multimedia and new creative arts for over fifteen years.  I took my first computer course in 1982.  So, I'm an old timer.   I have degrees in business and communications and broadcasting and have also chalked a couple of years of computer programming courses.  I work in public access television production and also do professional photography on the side .... in my spare time.  Oh yea, one of my jobs was working for a major internet company as a technical support specialist.  These pages are from notes I took over the years.  There is so much to learn in the computer industry as well as the digital photography, videography and audio industries are constantly changing.  I hate paying for anything, so I have collected as much free stuff as I can and I started to take notes and collect great links.  Hope my notes help you too!

I want to edit my site using Netscape Composer.
STEP 4:           PART I:
Creating New Pages and Adding Hyperlinks
  1. To create a new page, select FILE - NEW - BLANK PAGE or hit the NEW icon from the picture menu at the top of Composer.
  2. Create your tables, insert some text and FILE - SAVE (or save as).
  3. You may now reopen the file and add more text and graphics to it.
  4. Once you're finished with your new page, you'll want to hyperlink to it from your home (or index) page.  In order to hyperlink from the index page, go to the index page FILE - OPEN PAGE - then type in the location of index.html
    PART II:
  5. How to Hyperlink:  Click in the table (or location) where you want your hyperlink to appear.
  6. Press the LINK icon on the top picture menu.
Alternative method:  From the top menu bar, press INSERT - LINK
  7. A dialogue box will pop up.
  8. The top box will say "Link Text to Display" :  You can type in anything here.  One word or the entire address of the page or a descriptive title.  Type it as you would a sentence with capitals and punctuation, if desired.  This is what the viewer will actually see on your page.
  9. The next box says "Link to a page location or local file":  This is where you type the address of your new page, or to another site or other world wide web page your viewers may have an interest in.   If you are linking to someone else's site, include the full address like this:

    http://www.whateverdomain.com/whateverdirectory/whateverpage.html

If you are linking to a page within your own domain site, type it like this:

    pagename.html

    or

    whateverdirectory/pagename.html

NOTE:  If you are linking pages within your own site, those pages must be uploaded on to the server in order for the links to work.
