MANUAL AND INSTALLATION GUIDE:  http://osbtools.googlepages.com/

Current GPC design dictate that at least the home page must be maintained by GPC but all other pages needn't. Here we will describe how the OSB site was built.

STEP 1:
Download Open Site Builder from Sourceforge.net

STEP 2:
Install Open Site Builder
     TO INSTALL:
      1.  You must have PHP on your server.  Most hosting companies will have this already installed.
      2.  Place all osb* files into apache document root subdirectory on your server
                      Subdirectory inside of htdocs default.
                      Look for something like c:/program files/Apache group/apache2/htdocs
Move the osb folder into the htdocs folder (Documents in the htdocs folder are accessible by typing
                                      http://localhost/ url into your browser.
      3.  Configure apache to run with php so that it executes the .php scripts when they are called
rather than just send the source of the script to the browser.

Installing as an Apache module

You need to insert these two lines to your Apache httpd.conf configuration file to set up the PHP module for Apache 2.0: Example 6.6. PHP and Apache 2.0 as Module

# For PHP 4 do something like this:
LoadModule php4_module "c:/php/php4apache2.dll"
# Don't forget to copy the php4apache2.dll file from the sapi directory!
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

# For PHP 5 do something like this:
LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2.dll"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

# configure the path to php.ini
PHPIniDir "C:/php"

Note: Remember to substitute your actual path to PHP for the c:/php/ in the above examples. Take care to use either php4apache2.dll or php5apache2.dll in your LoadModule directive and not php4apache.dll or php5apache.dll as the latter ones are designed to run with Apache 1.3.x.
Warning

Don't mix up your installation with DLL files from different PHP versions. You have the only choice to use the DLL's and extensions that ship with your downloaded PHP version.
---------------------------

actually you will need to add these 2 lines to the end of your httpd.conf file:

LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2.dll"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

if you use apache 2.2 you may have to change php5apache2.dll to php5apache2_2.dll.

restart apache.

STEP 3:
Type the following into your web browser:

Call it from your browser by the following address:
http://localhost/osb/osb.php  OR  http://localhost/path-to-osb/osb.php

STEP 4:
Download and install Open Site Build

OSB is a PHP program and needs PHP installed on your machine.
If you do not have PHP (and Apache) installed you may use the official PHP package from http://www.php.net/ and Apache distribution from http://httpd.apache.org/ or use one of the integrated packages available on the net, like WAMP5, EasyPHP or many others that install and configure Apache/PHP/Mysql in seconds.

Ok I do not seem to follow these install instructions.
I installed Apache first then PHP. I am not that sure where the apache root subdirectory is. So I went to programs directory on my c: drive and found the apache install placing the OSB folder in the apache foundations/apache2.2 folder.
Things do not seem to be running for me.
I run my browser ( firefox ) amd type the http://localhost/osb/osb.php simply to find :
Not Found

The requested URL /osb/osb.php was not found on this server.

Any suggestions.
I would like to try out the OSB environment but have no clue as to what is needed to run PHP and Apache in my windows world.
------------

first of all you need to locate your apache document root folder which is htdocs by default. look for something like c:/program files/Apache group/apache2/htdocs. any documents here are accessible via http://localhost/ url in your browser. move osb folder here.

then you need do configure apache to run with php so that it executes the .php scripts when they are called rather than just send the source of the script to the browser. locate httpd.cong file in your apache2/conf folder. see the following page for the instructions:

http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.windows.apache2.php

you will need "Installing as an Apache module" section. actually you will need to add these 2 lines to the end of your httpd.conf file:

LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2.dll"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

if you use apache 2.2 you may have to change php5apache2.dll to php5apache2_2.dll.

restart apache.

what happens?

About: Open Site Builder Tools populates a predefined page template with
information from content files, and generates the target Web site
documents. It allows configuring menus and navigation bars on a
per-directory or per-page basis. This approach lets you separate page
layout development from content creation, and eliminates the need for an
additional template rendering engine at runtime, thus saving your site
processing power on each page served. Features include entities and macros
substitution, automatic sitemap generation, a smart FTP uploader, and a
build logs analyzer. The project site contains extensive documentation
including a tutorial, a commands reference, and a sample site
configuration.
